Valmet Automotive will manufacture also the next generation Mercedes-Benz compact cars
22.03.2017

Valmet Automotive and Mercedes-Benz announce that Valmet Automotive will start manufacturing the next generation Mercedes-Benz compact cars at the Uusikaupunki, Finland plant. Valmet Automotive launches the project immediately.

The duration and extent of the manufacturing contract is comparable with those of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and the GLC SUV.

Daimler has signed the manufacturing contract for the next generation compact cars with Valmet Automotive at an earlier phase in the product life cycle than ever before. This reinforces Valmet Automotive’s role in the Mercedes-Benz production strategy.

– The cooperation with Valmet Automotive is extremely successful. That is why it is logical for us to further continue this cooperation for the new generation of compact cars, says Dr. Klaus Zehender, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Procurement and Supplier Quality.

– The new manufacturing contract takes the cooperation of Valmet Automotive and Daimler to a new level, and consolidates the level of manufacturing orders at the Uusikaupunki plant for years, says Mr. Ilpo Korhonen, CEO, Valmet Automotive.

Valmet Automotive launches the manufacturing engineering project for the new compact cars immediately. The main target is engineering the required modifications in the A-Class body shop. The changes needed in the paint and assembly shops are limited. The production of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class will continue in Finland until the end of this year. At the same time Valmet Automotive starts a recruitment campaign for over 1000 new carbuilders in the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV production. The campaign complements the previous recruitments, and it is by far the largest ever by Valmet Automotive.

Valmet Automotive valmistaa Mercedes-Benzin seuraavan sukupolven kompaktiautomallia
22.03.2017

Muutos korostaa Valmet Automotiven merkitystä osana Mercedes-Benzin tuotantostrategiaa.

Mercedes-Benzin A-sarjan valmistus jatkuu Suomessa vuoden loppupuolelle. Samalla Valmet Automotive käynnistää rekrytointikampanjan, jolla haetaan noin 1000 uutta autonrakentajaa Mercedes-Benzin GLC-katumaasturin valmistukseen. Kampanja täydentää jo toteutettuja rekrytointeja, ja on Valmet Automotiven kaikkien aikojen ylivoimaisesti suurin.

Valmet Automotive aims at record-breaking volumes - changes in ownership
22.1.2015

Valmet Automotive expanded its business considerably in 2014. The daily production pace of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class at Uusikaupunki plant had significant rise throughout 2014, with the company turnover exceeded 300 million Euros.

The activities at Uusikaupunki plant have expanded, as the number of employees there has risen from 850 to around 1600. Furthermore, about 350 people from partner companies are working at the plant. The production volumes have risen from 7600 units in 2013 to more than 45000 units in 2014.

Daimler and Valmet Automotive expect the Uusikaupunki production volumes to continue rising significantly in 2015, with Valmet Automotive aiming at a new manufacturing record volume this year. The current record of 47 000 cars dates from 1992.

”We are very pleased with the way our organization has ramped up the production throughout the year without disturbances to product deliveries. The product quality has continuously remained excellent and the organization has been acknowledged for this by the customer”, says Jarkko Sairanen, Chairman of the Board.

Valmet Automotive’s ownership structure has changed as Finnish Industry Investment Ltd and Pontos bought Metso’s share of the company. Together with the company management, they now own all company shares.

”Part of Metso’s strategy was to sell ownership in Valmet Automotive, and it was carried out as planned. The change in ownership does not affect Valmet Automotive’s daily operations in manufacturing, engineering or roof business services. Our strategy and targets are clear, and we are in good positions to reach the targets we have set”, says Sairanen.

Industry Investment and Pontos became company owners in 2010, enabling the purchase of roof systems business in Central Europe, which has increased Valmet Automotive’s business with all important German car manufacturers.

“In the longer run, we are obviously interested in probing alternatives to find co-owners that share a strong industrial logic with Valmet Automotive”, says Sairanen.

Valmet Automotive is also an engineering and manufacturing partner for the premium hybrid car model Karma of Fisker Automotive, with serial production planned to start in the first quarter of 2011.

The future of new generation hybrid and electric vehicles as well as flexible and high-quality engineering and manufacturing services of Valmet Automotive are now at the beginning of a new development phase. Pontos sijoittaa Valmet Automotiveen
05.11.2010

Viimeksi kuluneen 40 vuoden aikana yhtiö on toimittanut Uudenkaupungin tehtaaltaan yli 1,1 miljoonaa autoa vaativille asiakkaille ympäri maailmaa.

Pontoksen Senior Advisor Jarkko Sairanen tulee vahvistamaan Valmet Automotiven hallitusta.
